Bovaer in Animal Feed: What It Means for You
At My Herbal Apothecary, transparency and quality are at the core of everything I do. I know that my customers care deeply about the ingredients in the products they use not just for their own health but for ethical and environmental reasons as well.
One topic that has been raising concerns in our community of likeminded individuals is the use of Bovaer in livestock feed. I want to address this openly and give you clarity on where I stand.
What Is Bovaer?
Bovaer is an animal feed additive designed to reduce methane emissions in livestock, mainly cattle. It works by inhibiting an enzyme in the digestive system that produces methane, aiming to make cattle farming more environmentally friendly. While that might sound like a positive step toward sustainability, many people have understandable concerns about its broader effects.
Just think about other things that have been implemented in the last few years that have had unintended consequences, and you can see why people are concerned.
Why Are People Concerned?
A growing number of naturally-minded consumers are skeptical about Bovaer for several reasons:
Lack of Long-Term Research
While initial studies suggest Bovaer is effective at reducing methane, there is little long-term data on its impact on animal health, the environment, and human consumption.
Interfering with Natural Processes
Some worry that interfering with methane production could affect digestion, gut health, and overall animal well-being which has the potential follow on to humans.
Consumer Choice
Many people prefer to support farms that raise animals in the most natural way possible, without synthetic additives, hormones, antibiotics etc.
Transparency Issues
Not all farms disclose whether they use Bovaer, making it difficult for consumers to make informed decisions about their food. If they're not disclosing it and they're not worried about it, then why not?
My Promise: No Bovaer, No Hormones, No Antibiotics
I take these concerns seriously. That’s why I’ve personally confirmed with my beef fat supplier (and they’ve double-checked with their local farm) that Bovaer is not used in their feed. These farms also steer clear of hormones and antibiotics, ensuring the most natural, traditional approach to raising cattle. The animals are pasture-raised and processed directly from paddock to butcher, which means clean, top quality ingredients for my products and for your skin.
Transparency Matters
You have the right to know where your ingredients come from. That’s why I am committed to working only with suppliers who share my values of integrity and traditional farming methods.
If you ever have questions about my sourcing, I’m happy to provide answers because your trust means everything to me.
Please reach out to me via the contact page and I will get back to you within business hours.
My Final Thoughts
Bovaer is a relatively new addition to livestock farming. While its environmental goals may be well-intentioned, I believe in a cautious approach when it comes to introducing new additives into the food system (i.e. just don't do it!).
I remain committed to using only pure, natural ingredients—because what you put on your skin is just as important as what goes into your body.
Thank you for being part of a community that values transparency, ethical sourcing, and time-honored traditions. I appreciate you and your continued support.
